ringing in a new season
The big day is approaching, but first you want to remember this special time of life. Time can fly by as you prepare for one of the biggest days of your lives so let's take some time to pause to take it all in. Engagement photos are the perfect way to for you both to never forget this wonderful period of time. But, it can be hard to decide what to wear! I am here to help and to be your official stylist (sort of). Here are some of my top tips for how to dress for success on your engagement shoot.
Analyze what you like
Pinterest and other social media platforms offer us so many outfit inspirations and ideas that its almost hard to choose only one outfit idea. As you analyze the images on these platforms that caught your interest, take time to evaluate the surroundings in the photo. Is it urban or set at a park? What setting speaks more to your relationship? What do you both like to do together? This plays a major role in decided what style to go with.
plan for the location
This step is very important. If you decided that you are more of a formal couple that loves a romantic dinner on the town, then maybe an urban setting is the perfect backdrop. So, plan for the location, but keep in mind that a lot of shoots can require a fair amount of walking so remember to choose something comfortable. You might be asking than, "how can I dress formal and be comfortable walking around for an hour at the same time?". The answer: wear shoes that you have already broken in whether that be heels or flats. Wear an outfit that you can easily move around in. Wear things that allow you the maximum comfort possible while still capturing your vision.

Try it on before
I cannot stress this enough. Make sure you try on your WHOLE outfit before the day of the shoot. This includes the accessories as well. Make sure you can sit, walk, spin, etc. You both must ensure that you can easily feel like yourselves without worrying about the clothing malfunctioning. Photographers want to capture your best authentic moments; we don't want you worrying that your outfit feels last minute or that it's too stiff. We want you to feel like your best self and cherish the moments of the session.

Ask a friend
This is always a good idea if you are unsure about a piece you are trying on. You can model for friends and family either by taking a picture and sending it to them or by having them over. Get people's honest feedback. Also, give them options. This helps them feel more freely to pick their favorite on you and that way you get a idea of what they think looks good on you.
DON'T FORCE IT
You may like an outfit in theory or an outfit you see on Pinterest, but you may find that you do not like it on yourself. Don't force yourself to wear something that you do not really like for the sake of looking like someone else on social media. We can fall into this so easy because we saw someone else wear it. In the end, you want these photos to emanate you both and your love for each other, not an outfit.

Conclusion
Overall, be yourself. As cliche as this sounds, it's true. This session is about you and your partner and the love that has gotten you to this wonderful time of life!
